Juliet Pilewskie

I am currently a fourth-year Ph.D student, and my research focuses on studying convective storm systems to understand their contributions to the Earth’s energy budget and water cycle. Connecting present-day cloud vertical and horizontal structure to their precipitation amount and radiative responses in differing environments and over the full storm lifecycle is useful for discerning where uncertainties are in climate model cloud feedbacks. For this reason, I use twice-daily measurements from the A-Train satellite constellation to capture cloud, precipitation, and radiative effects of convective storm systems, and supplement with geostationary satellite observations and reanalyses to provide horizontal and temporal context to the storm features in differing environments. I graduated from University of Colorado-Boulder with a B.A. in physics in Spring 2017, and I received an M.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from UW-Madison in Fall 2019.
