Tristian L'Ecuyer Named 2021 CSU Outstanding Alum
November 18, 2021Professor Tristan L’Ecuyer was selected as the 2021 recipient of the Outstanding Alum Award given by Colorado State University’s Department of Atmospheric Science. He earned his Ph.D. from Colorado State University (CSU) in 2001 under Emeritus Professor Graeme Stephens with his dissertation “Uncertainties in Space-Based Estimates of Clouds and Precipitation: Implications for Deriving Global Diabatic Heating.” After receiving his Ph.D., he spent a decade at CSU as a postdoc and research scientist working on the CloudSat mission.
Since coming to UW Madison as a faculty member, L’Ecuyer has continued his research into the intersection of climate science and satellite remote sensing. He has served as the director of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies since 2018, and he is the principal investigator in NASA’s Polar Radiant Energy in the Far Infrared Experiment (PREFIRE) experiment.
