Admission to the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Major

To declare the AOS Major, please arrange to meet in person with our AOS Department Academic Advising team by emailing aosadv@aos.wisc.edu.

The background requirements for the degree include: Calculus: three semesters equivalent to MATH 221, 222, 234. Physics: two semesters, calculus based, equivalent to PHYS 207-208 or 201-202. In addition, one computer science programming course such as python, Matlab, or another approved language (or working programming knowledge in one of these languages) is required.

After that meeting, a Major Declaration Form must be completed by the student and authorized by the departmental undergraduate chair, Prof. Jon Martin at jemarti1@wisc.edu.
